This week only us 4 woman turned up for class on Monday! Me, ‘J’, ‘Va’ and ‘I’ although ‘M’ had come in to tell our Teacher/Chef that he wouldn’t be able to attend due to an interview out of the city… Even though both me and ‘J’ had already informed our Teacher/Chef since ‘M’ told us the night before and that morning.
‘Vo’ turned up with no kit on (surprise surprise) and asked for a favour (the cheek) he wants to finish the course early but hasn’t done any work… He wanted to miss out on the morning session and just come back in the afternoon and do what he missed then… I have no idea why he thinks this would be easier if he had already come in to college in the first place.
Moving on; I was pretty speedy that day. I was ahead of everyone and finished like five minutes before everyone else every time we were doing something. Quite pleased with myself since all the feedback I had been getting had the words “need to speed up” in it.
I also seemed to make things perfect or so my Teacher/Chef was telling me!
We made Steamed Steak and Mushroom pies with suet pastry for the restaurant and I can’t remember the professional name of the dish but it was a sausage meat filled steak, rolled up and tied then pan fried, added veg, a bouquet garnie and stock then put in oven. After that It was back on the gas hob and reduced down to a Jus Roti. Really nice and was able to take it home. 🙂
My pie lid crimping was perfect and he showed it off to others as a “this is what yours should look like” (as you can see he also folded my lid sides over to be able to cover them for the steaming process and it didn’t look so perfect after that) and my stock turning to Jus Roti was the perfect deep rich brown colour that was full of flavour.
Then on Thursday while the kids were at school and nursery all day I chose to spend my free time going to college and printing off all my photo evidence of my produced dishes and products for my folder. I hadn’t printed any off at all for this year!
After I printed them all off including the baking session photos that I forgot to do I had to reference and date them all and put the page numbers on the correct photo evidence to match the correct units it covered.
Then after I did that I though while I am at it I might as well finish the rest of my folder – I completed all my UPKT (Under Pinning Knowledge Test) Whether I got them right or wrong I’m not sure I will have to wait til next Monday to see if my Teacher/Chef has checked them and signed it off or not. I also added some notes on the folder explaining what I have completed, what needs to be checked and what more I need to cover.I have a few more products to produce to complete every one of my units completely!
The sooner I complete the folder the sooner I finish the course completely and then it’s optional whether I want to keep going til the official end of course date. Of course I want to keep attending and if I do after I complete it then I can choose what I want to learn to cook and bake which I am looking forward to doing.
